When sources disagree

S355's ultimate strength for design: 490, 510 or 470 MPa?

Eurocode 3 gives fu = 490 MPa for S355 up to 40 mm. A widely shared design table says 510 — the value for hollow sections, copied into the wrong row. The UK National Annex lets you use the mill's guaranteed 470 instead. Matipedia shows all three, who says which, and why.

  • 510Civils.ai510 MPa is Table 3.1's value for S355H hollow sections to EN 10210-1, not for EN 10025-2 (Eurocode Applied lists both). The same page also gives E = 200 GPa in its grade table, contradicting its own 210 000 MPa above it.
  • 470EN 10025-2 minimum, 3–100 mmThe value the mill guarantees; the UK National Annex allows it as fu.
